Chelmsford

Chelmsford is the county town of Essex, England, with roots stretching back to the Neolithic period. Remains of a Neolithic causewayed enclosure and a Late Bronze Age defended settlement have been found at Springfield Lyons in its suburbs. The Romans built a fort here around AD 60, and the civilian town of Caesaromagus grew around it, becoming the only Roman town name incorporating 'Caesar' in Britain. The Springfield Lyons enclosure featured a deep ditch with causeways and commanded views of the surrounding valley.
