The ancient remains were uncovered during construction of the current building in 1929–31, which replaced an earlier inn [1]. The pub's exterior features Tudor Revival architecture with applied half-timbering [1]. The Roman bathing complex remains visible inside the building today, offering a rare glimpse into Roman-era York [1].
