Isurium Brigantum

Isurium Brigantum was a Roman civitas capital at present-day Aldborough in North Yorkshire, England, serving as the administrative center for the Brigantes, the largest tribe in Roman Britain. Emerging as a trading post around AD 70 at the River Ure's highest navigable point, it became a planned town by AD 120 with a regular street grid, forum, and basilica. The site contains 22 recorded mosaics, including the early 4th-century Helicon mosaic with a rare Greek inscription in blue glass tesserae. Geophysical surveys revealed an amphitheatre beyond the town walls.
