Derventio Brigantum

Derventio Brigantum was a Roman fort and settlement beneath the modern town of Malton in North Yorkshire, England, strategically positioned on the River Derwent about 29 km northeast of Eboracum (York). A legionary vexillation fortress was established by 69 AD, with the fort rebuilt in stone in the early 2nd century and undergoing major phases during the Trajanic, Severan, Constantian, and Theodosian periods. The Notitia Dignitatum records a garrison of the Numerus Supervenientium Petueriensium stationed there in the late Roman period. Ten inscriptions survive, including dedications to Mars, and the original earthworks remain visible in Malton's Orchard Fields.
