Richmond Park in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames contains rare prehistoric burial mounds now protected as scheduled monuments. King Henry VIII's Mound is likely a Bronze Age round barrow, a type dating from the Late Neolithic to Late Bronze Age (2400-1500 BC) and rare in Greater London. A possible long barrow also survives as a substantial earth mound in the park's western section. The naturalist Edward Jesse noted "two or three ancient British barrows" here in 1835. Created as a royal deer park by Charles I in the 17th century, the park is now London's largest Royal Park and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
