Cripplegate was a northern gate in the Roman London Wall, built around 120–150 AD—approximately 80 years before the rest of the wall was completed [1]. It remained in use until at least the 10th–11th centuries, and gave its name to the Cripplegate ward of the City of London [1]. The gate was one of several entrances to the Roman city, which was enclosed by walls constructed between the late 2nd and early 3rd centuries AD [1].
