Kenwalch's Castle

Kenwalch's Castle is an Iron Age univallate hillfort near Penselwood, Somerset, believed to have been converted into a Roman fortress. The site covers 1.6 hectares within Castle Wood, with a single rampart and ditch featuring an earthwork bank up to 2 metres high. Named after Cenwalh of Wessex, it is thought to be the site of the Battle of Peonnum. Geophysical surveys and small-scale excavations in 1973 and 1996 indicated buried structures such as storage pits within the fort. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
