Maesbury Castle

Maesbury Castle is an Iron Age univallate hill fort in the parish of Croscombe on the Mendip Hills, north of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. The enclosure covers 2.5 hectares at 292 m elevation, with a single rampart up to 6 m high and an outer ditch. Built on Old Red Sandstone from the Devonian period, the hill resisted erosion better than surrounding limestone. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument offering panoramic views across the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury Tor.
