Banbury Hill

An Iron Age hillfort about 2 km south of Sturminster Newton in Dorset, England, designated as a scheduled monument. A single bank encloses a roughly circular area of about 1.2 hectares. Where best preserved, the rampart is 15 m wide with an external ditch 8 m wide and 1.5 m deep. The western entrance is protected by an external bank that curves to create a narrow passage only 2 m wide at its tightest point, a defensive feature typical of Iron Age hillforts. The site has been partially damaged by historical ploughing.
