Kingsdown Camp

Kingsdown Camp is an Iron Age univallate hillfort at Buckland Dinham, 4.5 km southeast of Radstock, Somerset. The roughly quadrilateral enclosure covers 0.15 ha and features a drystone wall possibly 4 m high and 2.5 m wide, with an entrance on the northeast side. Excavations in 1927-29 revealed Iron Age occupation from about 400 BC to AD 50, yielding pottery, currency bars, bone needles, and an iron dagger. The fort was reoccupied in the Roman period through the late 1st-2nd centuries AD, with a new paved entrance, Romano-British brooches, coins, iron slag from metalworking, and burials. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
