Holbury, Holbeton

Holbury is an Iron Age hill fort near Holbeton in Devon, England, classified as a multiple enclosure fort -- one of four such examples in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated on a hilltop approximately 95 metres above sea level, the fort overlooks the Erme Estuary to the east. While most British hillforts were constructed during the Iron Age from the 8th century BC through the Roman conquest, the multiple enclosure design suggests a more complex defensive arrangement with successive rings of banks and ditches. The site is a scheduled monument managed for its archaeological significance.
