Bolt Tail

Bolt Tail is a headland in South Devon, England, southwest of Hope Cove, occupied by an Iron Age promontory fort of about 4.9 hectares thought to date from around 600-300 BC. The fort is defended by a single rampart some 260 metres long and up to 4.6 metres high with an inturned entrance, while the headland's sheer cliffs provided natural coastal defence. Earlier human activity is attested by Mesolithic flint tools dating to around 6000 BC found nearby. The site, now on National Trust land along the South West Coast Path, has never been formally excavated.
