Highdown Hill

A multi-period archaeological site on an 81-metre chalk hill in West Sussex, featuring a Bronze Age Ram's Hill type enclosure, an Iron Age univallate hillfort refortified c. 270-300 AD, and a major Anglo-Saxon mixed-rite cemetery [1] [2] [3]. The cemetery, discovered in the 1890s, yielded over 200 burials from the 5th-6th centuries AD with an unusual number of glass objects [1] [3]. The site suffered damage from a WWII radar station and the 1987 Great Storm [1].
