Cannington Camp

Cannington Camp is a univallate hillfort on an isolated 80-metre hilltop near Cannington, Somerset, England [1]. Originally protected by a stone wall with the main entrance to the southeast, the site shows evidence of occupation from the Mesolithic through Roman periods [1] [2] [3]. The site has been proposed as the location of the 878 AD Battle of Cynuit between Viking and Anglo-Saxon forces [1] [4]. The north side has been severely damaged by 19th- and 20th-century limestone quarrying [1] [5].
