Ambresbury Banks

An Iron Age univallate hillfort in Epping Forest, Essex, England, believed to have been constructed around 700 BC and last occupied c. 42 AD. The fort encloses roughly 5 hectares behind a single bank of about 2 m height with an external ditch, originally topped by a wooden palisade. It may have sat on the boundary between the Trinovantes and Catuvellauni tribal territories. Local legend connects the site to Boudica's last stand against Rome in AD 61, though several other locations have also been proposed for that battle.
