Dunkery Beacon - Dunkery Hill

Dunkery Beacon, at 519 metres the highest point on Exmoor and in Somerset, contains a compact group of five Bronze Age cairns dating from approximately 2350-701 BC that occupy less than 0.25 hectares at the summit. The burial mounds, including the notable Joaney How and Robin How, represent late Neolithic to late Bronze Age funerary activity. The cairns are protected as Scheduled Monument 1003026 and were surveyed by English Heritage in 2004 after sustained visitor damage, with three cairns suffering from stones being regularly rearranged. The site was donated to the National Trust and now holds designations as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation.
