Appleby Logboat

The Appleby logboat is a Bronze Age vessel discovered in 1943 during dredging of the old River Acholme near Appleby, North Lincolnshire, England[1]. Dating to 1500–1300 BC, it is one of two prehistoric dug-out boats found in the Ancholme valley, the other recovered near Brigg in 1886[1]. This boat exhibits sophisticated repair techniques: splits in the timber were mended using birch (Betula sp.) plants secured with oak (Quercus) wedges, demonstrating advanced woodworking knowledge[1].
