Fiskerton Log Boat

The Fiskerton log boat is an Iron Age vessel dating to c. 500–300 BC, discovered during 2001 excavations on the banks of the River Witham near Fiskerton, Lincolnshire [1]. Carved from a single oak tree trunk, the boat measures approximately 6 metres (19.6 ft) in length and features a bowed bow and square stern, the latter sealed with a board slotted into a groove [1]. This type of watercraft would have been used for riverine travel and goods transport along inland waterways [1]. Prior to the 2001 discovery, initial archaeological investigations at the site were undertaken in 1981 [1].
