Pyramid of Neferirkare

The Pyramid of Neferirkare is the tallest structure at the Abusir necropolis, built for the Fifth Dynasty pharaoh Neferirkare Kakai in the 25th century BC. With a base of 105 m, it was initially designed as a step pyramid with six levels before conversion to a true pyramid was attempted but left incomplete at the king's death. The mortuary temple yielded the Abusir Papyri -- hieratic texts detailing funerary cult management, building activities, and priestly duties -- which also helped archaeologists locate the pyramid of Neferirkare's son Neferefre.
