Abusir

Abusir is an ancient Egyptian archaeological pyramid complex located approximately 20 km south of Cairo on the western bank of the Nile at the edge of the desert [1]. It lies between Giza and Saqqara, adjoining Saqqara to the north [2][3]. The site contains ruins of four kings' pyramids from the Old Kingdom period, built by three 5th-dynasty kings (Sahure, Neferirkare, and Neuserre) around 2465-2325 BCE [2][4]. Neferirkare's pyramid is the tallest in the necropolis where most kings of Egypt's 5th Dynasty were buried [5]. The site is part of the Pyramid Fields of Memphis and its Necropolis UNESCO World Heritage Site [6]. The pyramids were poorly constructed compared to similar Egyptian monuments and are now in a state of disrepair [7].
