Limes Germanicus

The Limes Germanicus was a Roman frontier defense system separating the Empire from Germanic tribes from 83 to about 260 AD[1]. It spanned Germania Inferior, Germania Superior and Raetia, combining natural barriers like rivers with earthworks, wooden palisades and watchtowers[1]. A network of linked forts stood behind the frontier[1].
