The Cave of Altxerri is located in the municipality of Aya (Gipuzkoa) in the Basque Country (Spain) [1]. The original grotto preserves rock paintings and engravings from the end of the Upper Magdalenian period within the Upper Paleolithic [1]. The paintings in the upper gallery, known as Altxerri B, were dated in a 2013 study to approximately 39,000 years old, making them the oldest stone paintings in Europe [1]. Its artistic style forms part of the Franco-Cantabrian tradition [1].
