Caves in Cantabria

The Cantabrian caves contain some of Europe's oldest known cave art, with paintings dating back to at least 40,800 BC during the Upper Paleolithic period.[1] The caves feature animal figures including bison, horses, goats, deer, and cattle, as well as hand stencils and other markings.[1] Archaeological excavations have uncovered bear remains, projectile points, and other artifacts demonstrating continuous human occupation throughout the Paleolithic era.[1] Many of these artifacts are preserved in the Regional Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria.[1]
