Castro of Chibanes

The Castro of Chibanes is a fortified hilltop settlement in the Arrábida Nature Park, on Serra do Louro in Palmela municipality, Setúbal District, Portugal, approximately 25 km south of Lisbon [1]. First occupied around 2900 BCE during the Chalcolithic (Copper Age), the site covers roughly one hectare and occupies the hilltop, with natural protection provided by a steep scarp to the south [1]. Archaeological excavations conducted between 2012 and 2017 documented the site's occupation history [2]. The site is legally protected as a Zona Especial de Protecção and classified as a Sitio de Interesse Público [1].
