Roman Villa of Outeiro de Polima

A Roman villa in Sao Domingos de Rana, Cascais, dating from the 1st century BC to the 3rd century AD. First documented by Virgilio Correia in 1913, the site was excavated in 1999 and again from 2003 to 2005. Discoveries include abundant Roman ceramics, construction materials such as tegulae and imbrices, a collection of loom weights, Bronze Age lithic artifacts, and a small terracotta mask now displayed in the Condes de Castro Guimaraes Museum in Cascais. An opus signinum pavement found in 1974 was unfortunately destroyed during water deposit installation.
