Prassa

Prassa is a Minoan archaeological site on Crete, discovered accidentally in 1939. Excavations began that year but were interrupted until 1951. Two Middle Minoan houses were uncovered, occupied in two phases: MM I to MM II (protopalatial, c. 2100-1700 BCE) and MM III to LM IA (neopalatial, c. 1700-1450 BCE), with basement rooms preserved to three metres in height. Finds include polychrome cups from MM I and fragments of wall frescoes. The settlement overlooked the plain of Amnisos and likely controlled the road leading to Knossos.
