Malia, Crete

Malia is a Minoan archaeological site on Crete's northeastern coast, occupied from 3000 to 1500 BC. The ancient settlement ruins lie 3 km east of modern Malia town, covering approximately 1 sq km and featuring multi-roomed buildings, streets, and workshops [1]. Today a coastal resort within Hersonissos municipality, the area spans 60.72 sq km and includes villages of Mochos, Krasi, and Stalida [1]. Located 34 km east of Heraklion, Malia had 5,501 residents in 2021 [1]. The site is Greece's third-largest Minoan settlement after Knossos and Phaistos [1].
