4500-3000 BC) Vathypetro is an archaeological site on Crete, Greece, located 4 km south of the town of Archanes. It contains one of the world's oldest wine presses, discovered during excavations begun in 1949 by Greek archaeologist Spyridon Marinatos. The complex includes a Minoan villa or manor house with multiple buildings, courtyards and workshop spaces, indicating it served as an important rural administrative center. The wine press represents some of the earliest known evidence of winemaking technology in the world. [1][2]
