Amnisos

A Bronze Age Minoan port settlement on the north coast of Crete, 7 km east of Heraklion, serving the palace of Knossos. The site features the "House of the Lilies," a large Minoan villa with notable frescoes reflecting the settlement's wealth. Amnisos is mentioned in Linear B tablets from Knossos recording offerings to Eileithyia, goddess of childbirth, who was worshipped in a nearby cave. The port played a key role in Minoan maritime trade networks, facilitating exchange of olive oil, pottery, and luxury goods across the eastern Mediterranean.
