Stravomyti Cave

Stravomyti Cave is a Minoan-era cave on the southwest slope of Mt. Juktas in Crete, Greece, at 400 metres above sea level. First used during the Neolithic period as a refuge and burial site, the cave saw habitation in the Early Minoan period, evidenced by quality pottery, before transitioning to storage and worship functions. It may have served as a shrine to a female deity such as Artemis, Diktynna, or Eileithyia, consistent with the broader Minoan tradition of sacred caves used for religious rites.
