Nichoria

Nichoria is a Bronze Age settlement on a ridgetop in Messenia, southwestern Peloponnese, approximately 30 km northwest of the palace of Pylos. Inhabited from the Neolithic period (c. 6000 BCE) through the Bronze Age, it became a major Mycenaean regional center with tholos tombs, megaron structures, and storage facilities. Reaching 5 hectares at its peak, it featured a Pylos-style megaron. Nichoria is notable as one of the few Greek sites that remained occupied through the Dark Ages, providing key evidence for the post-Mycenaean transition.
