Sanctuary of Zeus Soter erected c. 371 BC in the agora of Megalopolis, the Arcadian League capital founded after the Battle of Leuctra. The complex comprised a peristyle court (47 x 53.5 m) with double colonnades, two propyla, and a Doric-Ionic temple with a stylobate of approximately 11.62 x 4.4 m. It housed Pentelic marble cult statues by Athenian sculptors Kephisodotos and Xenophon depicting Zeus enthroned, flanked by the personification of Megalopolis and Artemis Soteira. Pausanias described the sanctuary as adorned with pillars; parts have been eroded by the Helisson River.
