Galaxidi

Galaxidi is a town in Phocis, Greece, built on the site of ancient Haleion, a city of western Locris with habitation since Early Helladic times (c. 3200 BC). A significant Mycenaean settlement was located at Villa, and a fortified Geometric settlement arose on St. Athanasios hill c. 700 BC. The city's religious center developed at Agios Vlasis during the Archaic-Classical period, with fortification walls added by the Aetolian League c. 300 BC. Haleion flourished until the 2nd century AD, fell into obscurity, and was sacked by Bulgarians in 981. The Archaeological Collection, established 1932, houses pottery, bronzes, and funerary inscriptions spanning centuries.
