Altar of the Chians

The Altar of the Chians was the principal altar of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, Greece, dedicated by the people of Chios after the temple's reconstruction in the 330s BC. Measuring 8.6 x 5.1 m, it has a limestone core clad in bluish-black marble with white marble base and cornice. An inscription records that the Chians received promanteia -- priority access to the Oracle -- in return for their dedication.
