Amfissa

Ancient city in central Greece and capital of the Ozolian Locrians, with a history spanning roughly 3,000 years. The acropolis walls date to the 7th-6th century BC, and recent excavations uncovered a Mycenaean tomb in use from the 13th to 11th century BC. In 653 BC, settlers from Amfissa founded Epizephyrian Locri in southern Italy. Philip II of Macedon destroyed the city in 338 BC during the Fourth Sacred War. Known as Salona during the Middle Ages, it remains the seat of the municipality of Delphi in Phocis.
