Cnidian Treasury

The Treasury of the Cnidians at Delphi was built c. 555-545 BC, before Cnidus fell to the Persians in 544 BC. The Ionic-order marble building measured 5.13 by 6.60 metres and featured two caryatids instead of columns at its northeast-facing entrance. The votive inscription records that the Cnidians dedicated the treasury and statues to Pythian Apollo 'with the tenth from what they seized from their enemies'. According to Pausanias, the interior housed sculptures of Triopas, Leto, Apollo, and Artemis attacking the giant Tityos. Fragments of the caryatids are now in the Archaeological Museum of Delphi.
