Crissa

Crissa (Krissa) was one of the most ancient cities in Greece, located southwest of Delphi on a spur of Mount Parnassus in Phocis. Founded according to myth by Chrissos, son of Phocos, the settlement dates to the Middle Helladic period and was fortified during the Mycenaean era with approximately 1,500 metres of walls, a 3.75-metre gate, and a semicircular tower. Mentioned in Homer's Catalogue of Ships as 'divine Crissa,' it once controlled the rich plain stretching to the sea and the sanctuary of Pytho itself. The city was destroyed during the First Sacred War (c. 595-585 BC) by the Amphictyonic League, after which it never regained prominence.
