Desfina

Desfina is a town in southern Phocis, Greece, near the ruins of ancient Echedameia and Medeon -- two cities destroyed by King Philip II of Macedon during the Third Sacred War (355-346 BC) and never rebuilt. The area has far older significance: on the hill of Kastrouli, a fortified Mycenaean settlement from the 13th-12th century BC features Cyclopean walls approximately 1.2-1.4 m wide, tentatively identified with Homeric Anemoreia. The Southern Phokis Regional Project now conducts transdisciplinary research combining classics, archaeochemistry, and digital humanities to study the region's cultural landscape from the Bronze Age through the Classical period.
