Craterus' ex voto

The ex voto of Craterus at Delphi was a bronze sculptural group depicting a lion hunt involving Alexander the Great and his general Craterus, attributed to the renowned 4th-century BC sculptors Lysippos and Leochares [1]. French Archaeological School excavations revealed a rectangular building (15.27 x 6.35m) between the Temple of Apollo and the theatre, with walls standing 4m high, likely a portico housing the sculpture on a pedestal against its rear wall [1]. Dedicated posthumously by Craterus' son around 320 BC, the now-lost composition is thought to be echoed in a lion-hunt relief from Messina now in the Louvre [1].
