Scorhill Stone Circle

Scorhill Stone Circle, also known as Gidleigh Stone Circle, is widely considered Dartmoor's finest stone circle, located on Gidleigh Common in northeast Dartmoor, Devon. Built during the Bronze Age, the circle is approximately 26.8 metres in diameter with 23 standing and 11 fallen stones remaining from an estimated original 65-70. The tallest stone reaches 2.5 metres. Notably, on Midsummer Eve the sun sets behind the tallest standing stone, suggesting possible astronomical alignment. The circle was spared Victorian restoration, preserving its original character.
