Ivinghoe

Ivinghoe Beacon is a Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age hillfort in the Chiltern Hills, Buckinghamshire, enclosing approximately 2.2 hectares in a triangular plan. Constructed around the 6th century BC, it features a single rampart averaging 2 m high with an external ditch and berm about 6 m wide. Excavations uncovered pottery, flint tools, animal bones, and a Wilburton-type bronze sword dated 1000-1200 BC. Strategically positioned at the western end of the ancient Icknield Way, it likely served as a tribal center and stock enclosure.
