Desborough Castle

Desborough Castle is an Iron Age hill fort in Buckinghamshire, situated on the southern side of the River Wye valley within the Chiltern Hills, which runs from The Ridgeway and Vale of Aylesbury to the Thames [1]. The site contains a Norman ringwork partly overlying a mound, possibly a barrow reused as a Saxon moot [2]. Both features lie within a square enclosure, potentially representing an Iron Age or Late Bronze Age settlement or stock enclosure [2]. The location occupies a strategically important position controlling the valley route through the Chilterns.
