Brent Knoll Camp

Brent Knoll Camp is an Iron Age hillfort crowning the 137 m Brent Knoll near Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, a dramatic landmark rising above the flat Somerset Levels. Before drainage, the knoll was an island known as the Isle of Frogs. The fort encloses 1.6 hectares within multiple ramparts following the hill contours, with a wall around 10 m high and a ditch on the east side. Human settlement dates to at least the Bronze Age. The Romans later used the summit as a fortification, and an urn containing coins of emperors Trajan and Severus was found before 1790. Now a Scheduled Monument in National Trust care.
