Arbury Banks, Hertfordshire

Arbury Banks is an Iron Age hillfort southwest of Ashwell, Hertfordshire, England, likely first constructed during the Late Bronze Age (1000-700 BC). Measuring approximately 290 by 245 metres and enclosing over 12 acres, it is one of six hillforts along the northern Chiltern chalk escarpment. Excavations in the 1850s revealed a ditch 6 metres wide and 4.5 metres deep. Aerial photographs show cropmarks of rectangular enclosures, hut circles, and pits within the interior. The site was abandoned after the Roman conquest in the 1st century AD.
