Kourion

Kourion was a major ancient Greek city-state on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, first inhabited in Neolithic times (c. 4500 BC) and established as a town by Mycenaean settlers from Argos in the 13th century BC. Its well-preserved Greco-Roman theatre seated 3,500 spectators. The site includes the House of Eustolios with bathing facilities, the House of Achilles and House of the Gladiators with fine mosaics, and a 5th-century Christian basilica. A series of devastating earthquakes struck from 365 to 370 AD, causing near-total destruction.
