The Sanctuary & Temple of Apollo Hylates

The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, located 2.5 km west of ancient Kourion, was one of the principal religious centres of Cyprus where Apollo was venerated as Hylates, protector of the woodland. Worship at the site dates from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD, spanning Archaic, Ptolemaic, and Roman building phases. The visible remains mostly date to 1st century AD restorations and include Apollo's partly restored temple, pilgrim halls, a palaestra, and a bath complex.
