7th–4th millennium BC: Khirokitia (also spelled Choirokoitia) is a Neolithic archaeological site in Cyprus, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. It is one of the most important and best-preserved prehistoric settlements in the eastern Mediterranean, featuring a collective settlement with surrounding fortifications that demonstrate an organized, functional society with communal protection. The site exemplifies the Neolithic aceramic period, with approximately 20 similar settlements distributed across the island.[1][2]
