Apliki

A Late Bronze Age copper mining and smelting settlement in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, active in the 13th century BC. Situated in the island's richest ore district, which produced over 80% of Cyprus's modern copper output, Apliki supplied copper cast into oxhide ingots traded across the eastern Mediterranean from around 1450 BC. Excavated in 1938-1939 by Joan du Plat Taylor, four houses yielded finds including an ivory cylinder, steatite seal, and gold earring. The site has been inaccessible for further fieldwork since 1974.
