Besh Barmag Mountain

Besh Barmag ("Five Fingers") is a 382-metre solid-rock mountain in the Siazan District of Azerbaijan overlooking the Caspian Sea and the Baku-Quba Highway. One of the most famous mountains in the Caucasus, it historically served as a natural fortress protecting caravans travelling along the Silk Road. The mountain is a sacred pilgrimage site: legend holds that the prophet Khidr found a spring of immortality at its summit, and pilgrims tie cloth strips to trees along the path and receive blessings at a hillside shrine. Visitation peaks during Ramadan.
