Osmantəpə

An early Neolithic settlement near Kuku village in the Shahbuz district of Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, situated at approximately 2,400 metres above sea level on the edge of the Qanligol reservoir. The site was discovered after erosion exposed artifacts along the riverbank and is now partially submerged. Excavations by Bakhshaliyev revealed evidence of the transitional stage between the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, including obsidian tools sourced from the nearby Gegham and Zangezur Mountains and early ceramic production. The settlement is significant for understanding indigenous Neolithic development in the South Caucasus.
